George S. Bailey is a partner of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP in Columbia where he practices in the areas of taxation law, including planning and controversy work for corporations, partnerships, individuals, and tax-exempt organizations. He is experienced in state and local tax law, estate planning, and probate law. Mr. Bailey is a Certified Specialist in Taxation Law, a distinction awarded by the Supreme Court of South Carolina.
A member of the South Carolina Bar (Tax Section, chair, 1986), Mr. Bailey is admitted to practice before the U.S. Tax Court and the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America (2003-2006 editions), and is a member of the American Bar Association and a fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel. He is a member of the Columbia Estate Planning Council and the Richland County Bar Association. He serves as a member of the board of trustees of the Southern Federal Tax Institute, Inc.
Mr. Bailey earned a Master of Laws in Taxation from New York University in 1976 and a Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1975. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, cum laude, from Wofford College in 1972.
