Kerry D. Angus is an associate resident in the firm's Charlotte office where he practices in the areas of taxation, corporate law and health care. Additionally, Mr. Angus practices in sports law and the representation of athletes. Mr. Angus has served as counsel in the following matters the $15 million stock acquisition of two Southeastern airline maintenance companies by an international client; involved were the development and integration of an inter-company structure to allow for minimum taxation on the repatriation of revenues to international jurisdictions; the $12 million land purchase and construction of a national restaurant chain; involved were all aspects of acquisition, financing, licensing and partnership negotiations; and a $5 million joint venture where he negotiated and drafted management agreements and lease arrangements in the merger of two Southeastern medical practices; a hostile takeover of a private corporation where he assisted minority shareholders in obtaining a controlling interest through a proxy fight; the $4 million sale and acquisition of numerous physician practices with a large medical university and various other entities; numerous restructuring transactions aimed at complying with state and federal regulations. the $3 million private securities placement for a vision laser surgery venture; has founded numerous non-profit organizations, corporations, and limited liability companies; and numerous restructuring transactions aimed at complying with state and federal regulations. A member of the North Carolina Bar, Mr. Angus is also a member of the South Carolina Bar and its Tax Law Section Council. He is the co-author of "Let's Make a Deal-The Use of Supplemental Environmental Projects," P2SC, Fall 1997. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the Horry County Bar Association. Mr. Angus received a Master of Laws in Taxation from New York University School of Law in 1999 and a Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1998. During law school, he was a member of the Order of Wig and Robe. In 1995, Mr. Angus received a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Massachusetts in Lowell where he played NCAA Division I ice hockey. A native of Manitoba, Canada, Mr. Angus played professional ice hockey prior to attending law school.
