Employment Law
Labor and employment law changes faster than any other area of law in the United States. An often conflicting stream of new state statutes, new court decisions, and overlapping federal laws create a complicated environment. The Employment Law Committee was formed to offer free discussions between attorneys whose primary practice area is representing employers. The Committee attempts to disseminate information about current developments in this shifting area of law and offers education opportunities during the year to Association members.
The Employment Law Committee brings together attorneys who represent clients in all aspects of employment and employee benefits law. The Committee gives attorneys the ability to exchange ideas about developing employment policies and procedures that comply with the law, minimizing the risk of employment disputes, and litigating such disputes when they do arise. To encourage this free exchange of ideas, the Committee publishes articles in the Association’s publication, The Defense Line. Furthermore, the Committee sponsors information and CLE seminars about new topics and shifts in current law.
At the Joint and Annual meetings of the SCDTAA, the Employment Committee offers practitioners the opportunity to attend break-out sessions. These sessions allow candid, insightful discussion about current case law, trends, counsel, and issues germane to those representing employers.
The Committee plans to continue to increase the scope of information offered to its members, and encourages anyone interested in this practice area to participate in upcoming events.
